for beautiful spindles & fibres

Avon Guild - 11 April 2015

We taught a Beginners and Improvers spindle spinning workshop at Avon Guild. Carol started out with the six "beginners" and Pete took the dozen "improvers", some of whom seemed to be producing better yarn than he was! Pretty soon, the distinction between the two groups became blurred; everyone did very well.

Several people took the opportunity of trying out some of our personal collection of spindles, which we had brought so people could assess different spindles for themselves.

They all progressed rapidly on to plying. If I'd caught this Guild member before she'd created this giant Andean plying bracelet, I should have suggested using a nostepinne!

One young woman was so keen to attend that she even brought her husband and very new baby! Both of them were very good and the baby slept for much of the day.

At the end of the day, we produced the spindles that we sell - we know better than to do this earlier, as it tends to bring any teaching to a close - and a certain amount of shopping was done.
