A Feel For Fibre - 30 and 31 August 2014

The weekend was a great success; everyone, including the tutors, enjoyed themselves and the feedback that we have received was overwhelmingly positive. We had eleven participants, one of whom could only make the Saturday; this was a better response to the event than we had expected.

Saturday 30 August

In the morning, Penny Graham guided six participants in mixing their choice of dye colours, which they then applied to a skein of commercial yarn.
Meanwhile, Pete Leonard was teaching the other five people to spin and then ply a yarn from prepared wool tops, using top whorl spindles.

After a tasty lunch at Organic House café, the two groups swapped over, with the dyers learning to spin and vice versa.

Sunday 31 August

Four at a time, Nicola Winters introduced people to weaving in one or more patterns on one of a number of looms that she had prepared.
While this was happening, Carol Leonard was teaching the other six participants to spin on a wheel.

Their lunch, at the Olive Branch restaurant, even included a glass of wine!

Here are a few photos of the weavers...

Because of all the positive reactions to this weekend, further workshops are likely to be held; watch the News pages on this web site!
